Why Going Non-Toxic in Your Home is Essential

Why Going Non-Toxic in Your Home is Essential

. . .

. . .

Your home may very well be a den of toxicity. From chlorine bleach to ammonia sprays it is no wonder the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported in 2009 that, “Unintentional poisoning was second only to motor vehicle crashes as a cause of unintentional injury death for all ages.” A non-toxic world will bring you and your family to higher health. By eliminating unfair chemical dangers, non-toxic manufacturing creates peace of mind in a world where it seems like everywhere you turn another poison is out to get you.

The Toxic Circle

Your mother and father grew up in a different world. There was way less transparency when it came to how products were made and where the waste from that manufacturing went. Today, the green initiative has opened the eyes of consumers to how each purchase affects their carbon footprint. Doing household jobs such as cutting grease, cleaning bathrooms or washing clothes seems to have been relegated to the slick advertising of toxic solutions touted as safe, pleasant smelling choices. The basic consumer blindly purchases these formulas under the guise that their family has been using them for years so they must be the right choice. What most people do not consider is the yearly systemic accumulation of these toxins that are often peripherally, if not directly, associated with afflictions that may severely affect the brain, liver, kidneys and more. Many of these products are so hazardous that not only are adults at risk but children become targets as well. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports “cleaning products can present several health and environmental concerns. They may contain chemicals associated with eye, skin, or respiratory irritation, or other human health issues.” The Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) also cites that, “150 chemicals found in the home are connected to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological disorders.”

Some Non-Toxic Initiatives

It is often an uphill battle to convince each individual consumer to switch their toxic choices to non-toxic ones. This is why it is important for organizations to get involved on a grand scale so as to lead the way for the unconcerned or unconvinced. One such move came from the EPA which implemented a program called, ‘Environmentally Preferable Purchasing of Green Cleaning Products’. This is a policy that implores government agencies to purchase non-toxic, green cleaning products. This change alone has the potential to set a precedent for national demand and pave the way for changing the mainstream mindset. There is also a call for modernizing the Toxic Substances Control Act to put more pressure on chemical companies that continue to skirt many environmental as well as health related studies regarding the dangers of their products.

Going non-toxic puts the consumer ahead of the curve. By choosing non-toxic, naturally prepared cleaning products, toys, pet supplies, kitchenware and more, you may substantially reduce your and your family’s exposure to chemical toxins and potential future illness. You deserve a higher quality of health on your terms.
