Upcoming American Eco-Fests for 2012

Whether you are a socially conscious green friendly consumer or environmentally concerned small business, upcoming American eco-fests for 2012 could be just the thing to visit or join and become an eco-vendor. Throughout our grand country, individuals and groups alike are rising up to share going green updates, ideas and even recipes alongside games, fantastic food and some of the most prominent musicians in the industry at an eco-fest near you. Below are a few choices that may have you hopping in your electric vehicle to motor to with big plans on getting involved and getting informed.

Green Mountain Eco-Fest – Eldridge, Missouri August 31st – September 2nd

Located in the Missouri Ozarks (with camping along the Niangua River) this three day event is full of activities. It includes over twenty artists featuring music from around the world, loads of workshops and many lectures regarding everything from sustainability to eco-action. There will be a bio-diesel shuttle to and from the grounds as well as zero waste stations with recycling, composting and reusable barrels. Some of the musical acts lined up include: Umphrey’s McGee, Melvin Seals, The Jerry Garcia Band and Split Lip Rayfield.

Conway Eco-Fest – Laurel Park, Arkansas – Saturday September 8th

This is an interactive, educational festival that invites families, singles and groups to enjoy a day of social awareness. The festival includes such things as agricultural cooking demos, cardboard car derby, alternative energy/fuel vendors, an eco-kite building contest and local musical performances.

Green Festival: Washington, DC Sept. 29th-30th; San Francisco Nov. 10th-11th & L.A. Nov 17th-18th

The Green Festival is described as “a walk through a sustainable community…finding solutions to help make our lives healthier-socially, economically and environmentally. Individuals, business and community leaders come together to discuss critical issues that impact us at home and abroad.” This is a large roving event with many sponsors travelling from city to city to spread the going green word. It is a project of Green America and Global Exchange that offers a marketplace of over 300 green friendly vendors, 125 renowned authors and the latest progress in green energy. There is food tasting and recipes that revolve around green production such as vegetarianism. Overall this festival is about empowerment, education and action as opposed to just a green party.

7th Annual Green Fest Philly – Headhouse Square, Philadelphia – Sunday September 9th

This free event is the largest green fest in Philly. It offers over 100 vendors along with food and live music. There is a sustainable-brewed beer garden, electric vehicle/energy efficient demonstrations, clothing swap and many family events that include green toys and activities to entertain as well as teach the kids. Bands performing include Cheers Elephant, Mount Joy and Abstract Verses.

These upcoming American eco-fests for 2012 continue to sweep the country. Each year more people are informed and propelled into action by the awareness offered either on a small town or city event scale. Keep an eye out for an eco-fest near you or visit one of the above and get going green.
